Cardiolite Stress Test Instructions

  1. Do not eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the test.
  2. If you are currently taking any heart medications, check with your doctor. You may be asked to discontinue use of these medications prior to the test.
  3. Wear loose and comfortable clothing that is suitable for exercise, including comfortable exercise shoes.
  4. Before the test, you will be asked to sign a consent form. Please feel free to ask any questions about the procedure.
  5. Several electrodes (small sticky patches) will be placed on your chest to obtain an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), a recording of your heart's electricity.
  6. An Intravenous (IV) line will be inserted into a vein in your arm, to allow injection of the tracer during exercise.
  7. The entire test takes about 3 to 4 hours.
  8. The resting portion of the exam will be performed while you lie on a table and a camera moves over you taking pictures. It will take 15-30 minutes to complete this portion.
  9. Results of the test will be given to your physician in written form.

Precautionary Information: The Cardiolite administered during this stress test contains a small amount of radioactivity. The amount is comparable to an X-ray CAT scan.

If you are pregnant, suspect you may be, or are a nursing mother, discuss this with your doctor before undergoing the procedure.
