Rest Exercise Muga Instructions
This test is an exercise of your cardiovascular system and is done on a modified stationary bicycle.

  1. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the test if it is scheduled for the A.M. If the test is scheduled for the P.M., you may eat a light breakfast. Do not consume any caffeine products 24 hours before your test (coffee, tea, some carbonated beverages, chocolate).
  2. Wear sneakers or comfortable walking shoes and clothing.
  3. An IV will be started on your hand or arm.
  4. EKG leads will be applied to the chest.
  5. Prior to starting the initial scanning, the technician will inject a nuclear tracer called Technetium.
  6. The physician will be at your side while you are exercising.
  7. The technicians will take your blood pressure at intervals during the test.
  8. The resistance of the cycle will increase approximately every 3 minutes.
  9. Scanning will be done before, during, and after exercising.

MEDICATION INSTRUCTIONS: DO NOT APPLY ANY NITROGLYCERIN PATCHES OR PAST AFTER 5:00 P.M. THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TEST.

IMPORTANT: If you have any chest pain or shortness of breath, call our office immediately.

Please be aware that Technetium is not a dye. This test will help the physician evaluate the main pumping chamber of your heart. Expect to be at our facility for approximately 3 hours.

NOTE: Test results generally take 72 hours to produce. Your CVC physician will notify you the results by letter. If the results are significantly abnormal, the physician will call you to discuss further.
